GREEN LEVITTOWN

Image of the Green Levittown kickoff.

Levittown, New York was the first suburb in America and in 2008 CCE partnered with Nassau County to make Levittown the first Green suburb. Green Levittown was an innovative partnership that worked with businesses to reduce the carbon footprint of Levittown by 10 percent.

What is Green Levittown?

The Green Levittown Project provided special services to the Levittown community to upgrade their homes and make changes that helped save money and the environment. Homeowners were asked to participate in the program. Participation ranged from changing lightbulbs to home energy audits.

Companies that Participated in Green Levittown:

  • Alure Home Improvements offered discounted home energy assessments for all Levittown residents. The home assessment tests for energy efficiency and safety. All Alure assessments included five free CFL's.
  • EarthKind Energy offered expertise with installing solar air heaters and hot water heaters.
  • Intellidyne donated 50 energy efficient hot water heating systems.
  • Tragar Fuel offered fuel oil with 5% biofuel at no additional cost to Levittown residents.
  • Keyspan offered free home energy audits to current Keyspan customers in Levittown and created a cost effective package for residents that wanted to switch to natural gas.
  • Bethpage Federal Credit Union offered Levittown residents who participated in ‘Green Levittown’ low-interest loans.
